This network presently consists of a steering committee of 7 members, but hopes to grow and attract membership from academics, practitioners and policymakers involved in Inclusive Education across countries in Africa, both from within Africa and beyond. It is an attempt to develop partnerships based on an agreed definition of inclusive education for the African context which would focus on the inclusion of all learners, particularly those from marginalized groups, including those with disabilities and special needs.
The mission of this network is to contribute to increasing access and improving quality education for all children in Africa, particularly those from marginalized groups. This would involve influencing developments in both policy and practice and sharing best practice.
The steering group consists of members who have previously worked together on projects and publications from the UK, Kenya, Uganda, South Africa and Swaziland. Membership of this steering group is closed although membership to the network is open to academics, practitioners, policymakers who are involved with Inclusive Education policy and practice in Africa.
Affiliate members who will support the network and the Africa Journal of Inclusive Education will be 2 leading academics in the field from Australia and the UK, who have experience in Africa:
1. Prof Roger Slee, University of South Australia
2. Prof Tony Booth, Cambridge University
